Ocean Grove
Beautification Project is a non-profit organization founded
in 1994 to create and maintain flower beds and plantings throughout
Ocean Grove. The motto of the organization is "Preserve,
Beautify and Restore". OGBP maintains 16 flower beds; at
the Great Auditorium, the Broadway War Memorial, Founders Park,
the Main Avenue entrance, and at the beach-front. OGBP also
plants and maintains 97 memorial barrels along the boardwalk
and five historical urns.
OGBP's dedicated volunteers design and prepare the planting
beds, barrels and urns, and order, plant, weed and water throughout
the spring and summer and fall. OGBP does not receive funding
from Neptune Township or the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association,
and depends on donations from individuals and groups. If you
or anyone you know would like to volunteer with or contribute
to OGBP, they would love to have you.
1. Thursday Group
The Thursday Group meets at the Main Ave. beach-front flagpole
at 8:30 a.m. in the spring and fall. During the summer, the
group meets at 8:00 a.m., and may meet as early as 7:30 a.m.
The location of the project of the day is posted at the light
pole located at Ocean and Main Avenues, directly in front of
the flagpole. Bring a trowel, gloves and pruners.
2. Saturday Group
Sign up for the Saturday Group by contacting Connie Ogden at
(732) 776-7379, or at ladyog23@aol.com. For the Saturday Group,
projects are assigned to volunteers individually or as a group.
Information about the day's project is sent by e-mail, and includes
the project location and the start time, usually 9 a.m.
During the spring planting season, the need for volunteers is
especially great, and volunteers may be asked to meet more frequently
due to the urgency of putting approximately 6,000 to 8,000 plants
and flowers into the ground during the optimal planting period.
If you, or someone you know, would like to know more about OGBP,
or would like to volunteer or contribute, please call Connie
Ogden at (732) 776-7379; or Joan Knust at (732) 988-1033. Contributions
may be sent to: Ocean Grove Beautification Project, P.O. Box
594, Ocean Grove, N.J. 07756.
