Saturday, May 10 - The Shark River Cleanup Coalition
will hold a cleanup of the Shark River on Saturday May 10th from
9 a.m. to 3pm. There is no rain date. The registration site is
Memorial Park Beach on Riverview Ave. in Neptune City. Blue Mountain
Spring Water in Manchester sponsors this year’s event. In
an effort to stop using disposable plastic bottles, Blue Mountain
has agreed to provide filtered spring water and allow the volunteers
to fill reusable bottles. Their website is www.bluemountainwater.com.
A land-based cleanup will begin at 9am followed
by a free BBQ lunch in the park. After lunch, kayakers and boaters
will launch to clean areas of the bay that are inaccessible
on foot. If you have a group that can help us, please contact
SRCC at 732-681-0059. Participants are asked to wear sturdy
shoes, gloves, insect repellant, and sunscreen. Please bring
your own watercraft. Garbage bags are provided as well as filtered
water provided by Blue Mountain Spring Water.
The mission of the Shark River Cleanup Coalition
is to significantly enhance the water quality of the Shark River
Estuary and its fresh water tributaries, to improve and protect
habitats important to the conservation and abundance of the
wildlife, to protect the recreational and commercial uses from
degradation and pollution, thereby ensuring the ecology and
economic stability of this important watershed.
For more information call 732-681-0059 or visit the Coalition
